Lesson #7: What are Pot Odds and How to Calculate Odds of Hitting Outs?

What are Pot Odds and How to Calculate the Odds of Hitting your Outs?

Congratulations! You have just finished the seventh lesson.

Good job!

Now lets recap:

      • if there is a 100 in the pot and your opponent bets 50
      • you have to call 50 to win the pot of 150
      • so your pot odds are 150-50 or 3-1
      • this tells you that as long as you win more than 25% of the time(1 out of 4 times), you will make money on this call
      • you know that you should always calculate the pot odds, because they allow you to make better decisions
      • you know that outs are the cards that will improve your hand so that it’s likely to be the best
      • you’ve learned how to calculate the odds of hitting your outs
      • you use the rule of 4 and 2
      • on the flop you multiply the number of outs by 4
      • and on the turn you multiply it by 2
      • it’s a simple rule to understand and memorise, but you should be aware of the real probabilities:
